CHANGE PURSE

Half Moon Change Purses

In the early part of 2023 I made these two half moon change purses, but for some reason they did not get posted.  Came across them this morning while overlooking blog postings.  The photos where uploaded and left sitting in draft postings.  Therefore, I am publishing the post today.  🧵🪡

Half Moon Change Purse Sewing Project

A half moon change purse is a fun and functional sewing project! Here’s a simple guide to help you create one.

Materials Needed:

  • Fabric: Choose an outer fabric and a lining fabric (about 1/4 yard each).
  • Zipper: A 7-8 inch zipper works well.
  • Interfacing (optional): To give your purse more structure.
  • Sewing machine and thread: Matching thread for your fabrics.
  • Scissors or rotary cutter: For cutting fabric.
  • Pins or clips: To hold fabric pieces together.
  • Measuring tape or ruler: For accurate measurements.

Instructions:

  1. Cut Your Fabric:

    • Cut two half-moon shapes from your outer fabric. Each piece should be approximately 7-8 inches wide and 4-5 inches high, adjusting based on your desired size.
    • Cut two matching shapes from your lining fabric.
    • If using interfacing, cut it the same size as your outer pieces.
  2. Interface (if using):

    • Iron the interfacing onto the wrong side of the outer fabric pieces to add stability.
  3. Attach the Zipper:

    • Take one outer piece and one lining piece. Place the zipper face down along the top edge, with the outer fabric on top.
    • Pin or clip the zipper in place and sew along the edge, using a zipper foot.
    • Fold the fabric back and topstitch to secure the zipper.
  4. Sew the Other Side:

    • Repeat the same step for the other side of the zipper with the second outer fabric piece and lining piece.
  5. Finish the Bag:

    • With right sides together, sew around the curved edges of the purse, leaving the lining side open for turning.
    • Be careful around the zipper—it helps to leave a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
  6. Turn the Purse:

    • Turn the purse right side out through the opening in the lining.
    • Push out the curved edges carefully.
  7. Finish the Lining:

    • Once the purse is turned out, sew the opening in the lining closed either by hand or with a machine.
    • Tuck the lining inside the purse.
  8. Final Touches:

    • Give the purse a good press with an iron to flatten the seams and give it a neat look.

Tips:

  • Personalization: You can add embellishments like fabric paint, patches, or embroidery.
  • Variations: Try using different shapes or sizes for a unique look.

Conclusion

This half-moon change purse is a great project for beginners and can be customized in numerous ways. Enjoy your sewing, and feel free to ask if you have any questions on specific steps!

Scrunchie Sewing Homemade
Sider Fusion

Making a homemade scrunchie is a fun and straightforward project! Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you sew your own scrunchies:

Materials Needed

  • Fabric: About 1/4 yard of cotton or any soft fabric. You can use old clothing, scraps, or new fabric.
  • Elastic: 1/4 inch wide, about 8-10 inches long, depending on desired tightness.
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread if sewing by hand.
  • Scissors
  • Safety pin (optional)
  • Iron (optional, for creasing the fabric)

Steps

  1. Cut the Fabric:

    • Cut a strip of fabric that is 3-4 inches wide and 18-22 inches long. The length can vary depending on how full you want the scrunchie to be.
  2. Prepare the Fabric:

    • Fold the fabric strip in half lengthwise with the right sides facing each other.
    • Press it with an iron to create a crease if desired.
  3. Sew the Long Edge:

    • Sew along the long open edge with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, leaving the ends open.
  4. Turn the Tube:

    • Use a safety pin or a turning tool to turn the fabric tube right side out.
  5. Insert Elastic:

    • Cut a piece of elastic about 8-10 inches. Use a safety pin to attach the elastic to one end of the fabric.
    • Thread the elastic through the tube, ensuring it doesn’t get twisted.
  6. Sew the Ends Together:

    • Once the elastic is pulled through, overlap the ends of the elastic by about 1/2 inch and sew them together securely.
    • Tuck in the fabric at the ends of the scrunchie and sew the open ends together to close it up.
  7. Finish the Scrunchie:

    • Ensure all raw edges are tucked in, and give it one final press with an iron if desired.

Tips

  • Experiment with different fabric types or patterns for various looks.
  • Adjust the width and length of the fabric strip to customize the size of your scrunchie.

Enjoy your new scrunchie! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
