Yellow And Cream Mug Mat Quilt

Yellow And Cream Mug Mat Quilt

1.   1 piece of fabric at 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches

2.   1 rectangle piece of fabric at 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches

3.   5 square pieces of fabric at 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches

Piece and stitch together 1 and 2 and press and then stitch all of the 5 squares together.  Take them and then stitch them along the bottom accordingly.  Cut out batting and backing to accommodate the size.   Quilt as you like.   Choose applique of your choice to place on the largest piece. (as seen here I just placed a piece of fabric and then zig zag around it.)

The making of this Mug Mat Quilt was aspired by this video herewith

https://www.youtube.com/live/hMmSoZqLwi0?si=kPpx8ATzwrfj0XIT"

while viewing it.  I changed it around slightly because starting out I don't have a printer to print out the Tea Pot photo to do applique.   Therefore, all the measurements as given in the instructions of the video remain for the Tea Pot placing and positioning.  I just had a piece of the fabric in my scraps, as seen here and placed it on and then just zigzaged, because I didn't even have any freezer paper as the video instructs to use.   I didn't even cut the piece of fabric or take its measurements to get it to fit.  Next time when making it I can transform it to a tea pot when I get a printer or probably find it in maybe a book, magazine or kids colouring book for tracing.  Tracing brings back childhood days that I used to love tracing and colouring, to which I have not been doing since then.  Like the bible and scriptures say " to renew your youth".  ❤️

Pencil Case

Change Purse

Cosmetic Bag or Gym Bag

Fabric purchased from Gibbons  Company a few years ago and just getting around of making something with it.

I made this Mini Inspirational Quilt with it awhile ago, but just getting to use the rest of the fabric, I should say.

https://sewingquiltingbyshirleyann.blogspot.com/2021/07/mini-inspirational-quilt.html

The pencil case and cosmetc bag came from scrolling on Instagram and looking at videos of seamstresses one day.  I thought I saved the videos to share here or to refer to but can't seem find them at the moment.  When and if I come across them I will share them here.

The change purse was used from a pattern of Kwik Sew K4299 to which I puchased several years ago.

Materials

2 Pieces of fabric 40 cm by 20 cm

Velcro

Thread

Sewing Machine

Note book envelope or envelope wallet look.

1.     Cut out fabric of 2 pieces at 40 cm by 20 cm.  One for outer and inner which could be considered like a lining.  It doesn't necessarily have to be the same exact fabric for outer and inner.

2.     Place right sides together and stitch a seam allowance of 1/2 inch to the top with leaving a bit open in the center of the seam.

3.     Open seams and press.  Bring together or wrong sides leaving rights side of fabric on the outer.

4.     Make a fold on both sides back and front about 10 cm down from the top of sewed seam. Fold up.

5.     Now draw a line about 3 cm from that fold.

6.     Then fold up again about 6 cm.

7.     Now draw another line about 3 cm from that fold.

8.     Open up.  Bring the middle fold and meet 3 cm from the bottom.  Bring the other fold and meet on that one. Looks like a hand fan look.

9.     You will noticed that there is a 3 cm left at the bottom, bring that and place in the middle or between as noted in "No 8" above.  Take a pin to hold in place through all.

10.    Fold in half.  On the top draw around at the top in a circular way to form circular roundness to the top.  Open up from the half.

11.    Stitch a 1/2 inch seam around the entire sides.  Trim and cut around the round corners.  Press.

12.    Locate the opening and pull inside out to form the shape of bag.

13.     Press.

14. Top stitch accordingly.

15.     You have two options from this point.  You could leave as is with looking like a notebook can be inserted and it flap over or as I did here turn into a wallet look.  By flapping twice to make wallet look.

16.     Whatever option you use either use velcro or snaps for closure.

Bag Crocheted And Sewing Of Fabric Lining

Bag Crocheted And Sewing Of Fabric Lining

This is a crocheted bag made several years ago to which I brought out just recently and just lined with some fat quarters fabric I had and saw that it matched just beautifully in colour.  I cut out the fabric to measure the crochet bag and attached a zipper to the fabric lining, then inserted it inside the crochet bag slipped stitched around the zipper to attach the lining with the crocheted bag.  This was my first time for actually doing the combination of both, in other words lining my crochet.

The crochet stitches used here, if I can remember correctly are the basic single crochet in a couple of rows from a chain stitch.  Then a couple of rows of double crochet, then single and double crochet again and single crochet again.  It's been so many years that I know I didn't do from a particular pattern, I was just playing and getting warmed up to the various crochet stitches after being dormant since childhood and then putting it away, to again just bringing it out and realizing I had my sewing machine out and some fat quarters that seem to match it wonderfully.  It all seemed to come together that I am sharing it here in this blog post.  Sorry, that I can't put the exact measurements for the bag of how many chain stitches I actually started with to produce the actual size.  Since I was just playing with stitches and patterns, I didn't write the details to what I was doing back then.  Lesson learned write everything down, if you are planning to blog.

Looks like I need to go back to bible teaches as Habakuk taught to write things down for clarity, remembering etc.

Habakkuk 2:2
And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Jewelry Pouch Made Out Of Fat Quarter Scraps

Jewelry Pouch Made Out
 Of Fat Quarter Scraps

Pattern Recipe.

Method

This project derived from viewing a video on Instagram and I taking the idea and trying it with less fabric then they were making, which the pattern came out slightly different then I expected, but okay.

2 pieces of fabric at 10" x 10".  Place them rights sides together.  Stitch around the circumference, but leave about a 2" area unstitched.  Turn inside out with the open 2" area unstitched.  Open up accordingly making sure all corners are pointed.  Press.

Then on each corner make a even based triangle on each corner.  Stitch again around the circumference about 1/2" seam allowance.  Prepare a ribbon, string, cord, etc. of your choice to draw through the triangle areas of the pouch.  Draw through and cut off any extra cording more than tying into a nice size neat bow.
